Get a sweeping view of Air Force
and military aviation progress at the National Museum of the United States
Air Force, the largest and oldest
museum of its kind in the world.
You'll discover more than 300 aircraft and aerospace vehicles on display, many
rare and one-of-a-kind. In addition, you'll find thousands of historical aviation
artifacts, along with powerful sensory exhibits that bring military aviation
history to life.
Start at the Early Years Gallery that takes you from the Wright brothers up to
the early 1940s. Aircraft on display include a rare SPAD XIII, Caproni CA 36
bomber and a MB-2 bomber. The Air Power Gallery showcases the heroism of World
War II, where you can view a Doolittle Raiders' exhibit featuring a B-25B, the
B-29 that dropped the atomic bomb on Nagasaki, and other rare WWII-era aircraft.
At the Modern Flight Gallery, you'll see aircraft of the Korean and Vietnam wars
such as the F-86A and B-52. The Cold War Gallery puts you face-to-face with the
F-117 stealth fighter, A-10 "Warthog" and B-2 stealth bomber. You'll find an
array of space-launch vehicles and Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles on display
at the Missile and Space Gallery. And don't miss the popular collection of nine
Presidential aircraft, including the "Air Force One" Boeing 707 that served every
U.S. president from Kennedy to Clinton. There's also a Research and Development/Flight
Test Gallery featuring experimental aircraft.
What's more, you can take in the thrills of the IMAX Theatre, as well as the
Morphis MovieRide Theatre that simulates the sensation of flying in a fighter
jet. And be sure to visit the gift shop/bookstore and cafeteria.
